( A re-telling of the story in Bethlehem - in the Realm of the fairies)

A long time ago in a tiny village called Willow Brook, lived a little Fairy named Jazzy.  Sweet and delicate, though somewhat clumsy in her tender youth, Jazzy was still learning the ways of the fairies.  Her wings were nearing maturity and sometimes when in flight they would flutter uncontrollably and Jazzy would end up getting tangled in tree branches or falling into brook that ran right down the middle of the village. It was almost the Season of Short Days and the date of her birth, but Jazzy just couldn't get into the spirit of things.
Some of the other fairy children would make fun of her for her youthful clumsiness, taunting her and just being mean.  Jazzy's mother tried to console her when she saw how the other fairies were treating her, but she could not interfere; Jazzy would have to learn to defend herself.  Mother always told her that one day, she would gain their respect and all the tormenting would be forgotten.  `But, when would that day come?' Jazzy thought dejectedly, as her birthday drew near.  She just couldn't foresee it.  Her mother lifted her by her tiny wings, dusted her off and sent her out to play.

Just then a ruckus erupted, voices were raised excitedly and enthusiasm seemed to abound.  Many of the fairies fluttered wildly, proclaiming news of a special baby. The Sentry Fairy gave his account of what he had over heard from three men of some stature, travelling with special gifts for this child who would soon be born.
Jazzy, in awe of the news, decided she would also travel to see this baby wonder and present him with some of her own special gifts. So she packed her bag, made of a pansy petal, and stuffed her most precious gems into her bag.  With all the commotion, she slipped silently and undetected into night to begin a long journey.

She traveled for what had seemed like days with little that she could find to eat. Exhausted and hungry, she never thought to pack some food.  On the second day of her flight and as the sun was starting to set, it was time again to seek refuge, food and rest.  A huge old tree loomed ahead, with an opening near it's base. It seemed like a good place to stay, to rest and to regain her strength. There were lots of berries nearby and some potato root plants.  She would bundle some of each to take with her and nectar from flowers to satisfy her thirst.
As nightfall approached, she felt rejuvenated, knowing it was time to move on.  Her glowing wings illuminated the opening of the big old tree as she was making her exit. But to her surprise two young boys - humans they were - with dirty faces and even dirtier clothes grabbed her roughly, crushing her tiny body and wings. They demanded she give them all she had of value.

Out of nowhere came a young buck spearing them with his antlers and kicking wildly with his hoofs. The boys, caught off guard and frightened, ran off, dropping Jazzy to the ground. The deer crept gently toward her, nudging her with his nose to see if she was all right. Opening her eyes, she smiled at the deer, who's name was Pascal, and thanked him for saving her life.  No telling what would have happened to her if he didn't come along.
As it turns out, he didn't just happen along; he had been following her since she left Willow Brook days ago.
He told her how he would always watch her from the forest's edge, playing with the butterflies, dancing from flower to flower like a ballerina.  He also saw how the other fairy children mistreated her, but he - like her mother - could  do nothing to help her. The innocence she radiated touched his heart, so when he saw her leaving, he decided he would follow along to make sure no harm came to her. Jazzy fluttered up to the deer's face and kissed him. She told him of her quest to see the special child and present him with her gifts, which now were gone. The mean-spirited boys had stolen her only treasures.  Jazzy sat on the back of the deer and together they would continue her quest and maybe find a gift along the way.

Back in Willow Brook, Jazzy's parents were heartbroken; they could not find their only child. No one had seen her anywhere. Jazzy's mother knew how much her daughter loved her birthday.  This year something was missing though - Jazzy just wasn't herself.  She told her mother that she needed to do something big, something outstanding and maybe, just maybe, the fairies would learn to like her. With that in mind, Jazzy's mother remembered how she looked and acted at the news of the special infant that was to be born.  Her mother decided to notify the Fairy King of her troubled daughter's disappearance.  An escort was then formed and along with Jazzy's parents, they set out to find and bring back their lost fairy.
Jazzy and the young buck, coming to their journey's end, looked to the sky at the brightest, most sparkling star in the heavens that either of them had ever seen.  It cast beams of light to a little stable below the ridge they were standing on.  Not far from them a shepherd boy was tending his sheep and upon seeing them walked towards them. The shepherd boy asked if they have come to see the infant king who was just born.  Jazzy was so exhilarated, then like the air let out of a balloon she started to cry and told the shepherd boy how she was robbed of her precious gems she had  planned to give to the infant king.  Pascal, feeling so badly for Jazzy, tried to console her sobbing, then the shepherd boy, who had already presented his gift asked Jazzy if she would like to present the wool scarf he just finished making.  Jazzy was so excited she hugged and thanked the shepherd boy.

Jazzy and Pascal entered the stable to see the infant. It was a sight to behold, this tiny baby with this halo radiating above him, angels singing his glory, kings bearing expensive gifts, animals using their body heat to keep the baby warm.  Now it was Jazzy's turn and she fluttered so proudly with her scarf in her two little hands. It draped over the deer's back. She told the infant's parents that she came along way and the trouble they had run into and how her special gift was taken from her, but she would not turn back; she just had to see this baby.
The Infant King smiled at Jazzy. Talking to her with telepathy. He said, " Little one, I know your journey was long and fearful, but you didn't turn back. You are as brave as any I know to venture alone so far from home. You are my " North Star" the brightest "Shining Star" in the universe. You will one day be Queen and rein over the Realm Of Fairies. From this day on you will be called "Shining Star." Your innocence, bravery, and love for all are qualities that will hold you above any other." So, with that being said, "Shining Star's wings began to glow so brightly all eyes turned toward her, there was an unsaid look from all in the stable that some miraculous thing had happened to the little fairy.

Little did Shining Star know that standing behind her was her mother and father and the escort that was sent to find and bring her back. They were also the only ones to hear what the Infant King had said to her. As she turned and saw her family she was so happy and ran to their arms. The escort all took a step back and bowed to the lost fairy, their future Queen who now they had found.

Already the prophecy had begun, all who gazed upon the little fairy would know what her destiny was to be.
There would be no more taunting, she would now have the respect she longed for.
